What is Life Coaching

Life Coaching is a relatively new field, having been established in the 1970s with some of its origins tracing back to UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business. Life Coaching is not mental health therapy or social work. If you are mentally ill or your problems require professional counseling or medical assistance, you will be referred to a counseling and/or medical professional outside of our office.

While life coaching can be a helpful support for those with a mental illness who are receiving professional counseling, and a helpful method of accountability for clients to follow through with their medical and/or therapeutic regimen, life coaching is not intended to replace professional counseling or medical assistance.

The life coaching method that is supported by Cherie is a practical approach to problem solving, combined with principle-based direction and guidance. With visualization, skill development, motivational techniques and overall successful planning, our focus is on identifying, predicting and overcoming potential obstacles so my clients will reach their greatest potential and achieve success in their personal goals.

Are you a matchmaker?

My approach is different from that of a dating or matchmaking service. While matchmaking can be helpful if your only challenge is meeting people, it doesn’t address the deeper work required to build strong, healthy, and lasting relationships.

As a coach, my focus is on your long-term well-being. I help you identify and break unhealthy patterns, improve communication, and develop the skills necessary to navigate the complexities of dating and relationships. My goal is to help you gain the confidence and clarity to both approach — and be approachable to — the kind of partner you’re truly looking for.

Clients

How long do clients typically work with you?

Most clients work with me for several months, not years. My goal is to help you make meaningful progress as efficiently as possible.

How often do we meet, and for how long?

I am flexible in my approach with each individual client based on their needs. However, consistency and frequency is important to maintaining momentum. I meet with most clients every other week between 60 and 120 minutes each session.

Do I need a referral?

Referrals are appreciated and prioritized, but not required. Anyone is welcome to submit a New Client Request form.

What if I have a mental health condition?

Depending on the condition, I find that our work together will be most effective if you are receiving separate therapy. Sometimes it makes sense to receive that therapy first before we can make meaningful progress towards your goals. Other times we can work together in parallel to your therapy. You and I will determine together the best approach.

Do you offer in-person or virtual sessions?

In-person sessions are most effective and are my strong preference. However, I do accommodate out-of-town or traveling clients with virtual sessions.

Payment

Do you accept insurance?

I do not accept insurance. However, I do offer flexible monthly payment plans to help keep costs consistent and manageable.

What are your rates?
